Install Booster in about two minutes

Booster isn't on the Chrome Web Store by choice — this page walks you through installing it directly, the same way developers test extensions they're building.

Why not the Chrome Web Store? We're not listed there. That means Chrome won't auto-update Booster for you (we'll show a note in the popup when a new version is out — you re-download when that happens), and you'll need to turn on Developer Mode once, below. In exchange, you're not waiting on a store review to get updates or fixes.

1

Unzip the file somewhere permanent

Move it out of your Downloads folder first — e.g. into Documents\Booster — so Chrome doesn't lose track of it if Downloads gets cleaned up later.

2

Open the extensions page

Type this into your address bar:

chrome://extensions

3

Turn on Developer mode

Toggle it on in the top-right corner of that page. This is a normal Chrome setting for loading extensions outside the Web Store — it doesn't change anything else about your browser.

4

Click "Load unpacked"

A new button appears once Developer mode is on. Select the unzipped booster folder from step 1.

5

Activate your copy

Click the Booster icon in your toolbar, enter your email, and click the confirmation link we send you. Paste the license key it shows you back into the popup — that's the whole account system, no password involved.

6

Use ChatGPT as normal

Open chatgpt.com — Booster's bar appears above the composer. Type normally and hit send; it boosts automatically.

Before you install

Is this safe?

Booster only runs on chatgpt.com and only acts on text you type into the composer — it doesn't read images, uploaded files, or other tabs. The code that does the actual compression runs on our server, not in the file you're loading, specifically so there's less to just take on faith in the local files.

Why does it ask for Developer Mode?

That's simply how Chrome loads any extension that isn't installed from the Web Store — it's not specific to Booster, and it doesn't grant any extra permissions beyond what's listed for this extension.

What if a new version comes out?

Chrome can't silently update a manually-loaded extension. Booster's popup will tell you when a new version is available; download it again and repeat step 4 to replace the old one.
